Preparing the Environment for a Remote End-Point Assessment (EPA)

Updated this week

This guide outlines the mandatory physical and technical requirements for an Apprentice to successfully complete a remote End-Point Assessment (EPA). Following these standards ensures a fair assessment environment and prevents technical failure.

Physical Environment Requirements for Remote EPA

The Apprentice must establish a controlled physical environment to maintain assessment integrity and pass the initial "room sweep" conducted by the EPA Assessor.

  • Private Location: The Apprentice must occupy a quiet, private room alone for the entire duration of the EPA.

  • Clear Workspace: The desk and surrounding area must be free of all materials, papers, or digital devices not explicitly authorised for the Applied Learning demonstration.

  • Identification Requirements: The Apprentice must place a valid photographic ID (e.g., passport or driver’s license) on the desk. If the name on the ID does not match The Platform records, the Apprentice must contact Multiverse Support before the assessment date.

Technical Setup and Hardware Specifications

A stable technical configuration is required to prevent assessment interruptions. The Apprentice is responsible for testing all equipment on The Platform or third-party software prior to the start time.

  • Computing Device: The Apprentice must use a laptop or PC connected to a reliable power source.

  • Webcam and Audio: A functional webcam and microphone are mandatory. Accelerate People (AP) regulations require that all background blurs or virtual graphics be disabled to ensure a clear view of the environment.

  • Connectivity: A high-speed, stable internet connection is required. The Apprentice should verify connection strength in the specific room chosen for the EPA.

  • Software Access: The Apprentice must install and update the designated communication software (typically Microsoft Teams or Zoom) and verify screen-sharing capabilities.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Questions

Answers

Question: What happens if the Apprentice does not have a valid photographic ID on the day of the EPA?

Answer: The EPA Assessor cannot verify the identity of the Apprentice, which will lead to the cancellation of the assessment. The Apprentice must resolve ID discrepancies with Multiverse before the scheduled date.

Question: Is the Apprentice permitted to use a background blur during an Accelerate People (AP) assessment?

Answer: No. For Accelerate People assessments, the Apprentice must disable all background filters so the EPA Assessor can view the physical environment clearly.
