How should I prepare my environment for my remote EPA?

Outlines the required physical and technical setup for a remote End-Point Assessment (EPA), including room, desk, ID, and computer prep

Updated over 4 months ago

Your remote End-Point Assessment (EPA) requires a meticulously prepared environment to ensure fairness and a controlled setting. Before your assessment begins, your assessor will perform a "room sweep." Here's how to create the ideal physical and technical setup for your EPA.

Creating the Optimal Physical Space for a Remote EPA

The goal is to eliminate distractions and prevent unauthorised access to information.

  • Quiet Location: You must be in a quiet room and alone throughout the entire assessment duration. This prevents any disturbances or perceived external assistance.

  • Clear Workspace: Your desk and the immediate surrounding area should be entirely clear of any materials, papers, or items not explicitly permitted for the assessment. A clear workspace minimises the chance of accidental use of prohibited aids.

  • Photographic ID Ready: Have a valid photographic ID (e.g., driver's license, passport) readily accessible on your desk. You will be required to show this to your assessor for identity verification at the start of your EPA. If you do not have this or your name does not match, please contact our support team prior to your EPA.

Essential Technical Setup for a Remote EPA

A reliable technical setup is crucial for a smooth and stress-free assessment.

  • Computer: You'll need a laptop or PC with stable internet access. Ensure it's fully charged or connected to power to avoid power-related interruptions.

  • Webcam & Microphone: Both your webcam and microphone must be fully functional. Test them thoroughly before your EPA.

    • Accelerate People (AP) EPAO Specific: If your EPA is with Accelerate People, ensure any blur or background graphics on your webcam are turned off to maintain a clear view of your surroundings.

  • Stable Internet Connection: A reliable and strong internet connection is paramount. Test your internet speed and stability in advance to prevent disconnections during the assessment.

  • Assessment Platform Access: Your EPA will likely be conducted via Microsoft Teams or Zoom. Ensure you can access this software, have it updated, and test its functionality (audio, video, screen sharing if applicable) well before your scheduled assessment time.

  • Screens: Rules on additional screens vary depending on the EPAO.

    • Accelerate People (AP): Additional screens may be allowed for specific assessments. If this applies to your EPA, you will be explicitly informed. If you are presenting with an extra screen, you must screen share throughout the assessment.

    • 1st for EPA: All secondary display screens must be disconnected before your assessment begins.
