Understanding Your EPA Result

What do my EPA grades mean, how do I get feedback on my EPA, can I get a grade breakdown, when will my EPA result arrive, and how is the certificate different from the result. Guidance for Apprentices and Apprentice Managers.

Overview

This article explains what your End-Point Assessment (EPA) grade means, what feedback is available, and how to request more detail. Your result and your certificate are two separate things. The result is your grade, sent by Multiverse. The certificate is the official document, issued later through a separate route. This article covers the result. What Your Grade Means

Your End-Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) awards one of four grades. The table below explains each grade.

What it means

Distinction

You passed and performed to the highest standard in the assessment.

Merit

You passed and performed above the standard required.

Pass

You met the standard required by your apprenticeship.

Fail

You did not meet the standard this time. See "If You Do Not Pass Your EPA" for what happens next.

How your grade is calculated depends on your apprenticeship standard, set by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE). Some standards grade each assessment method separately and then combine them into one overall grade. Your EPA Prep module explains the grading rules for your programme.

When and How Your Result Arrives

Your EPAO issues your result to Multiverse. Multiverse processes it and sends your result notification by email. Expect your result within 10 working days of your final assessment component. Most results arrive sooner. The full 10 days applies when the EPAO needs additional moderation or quality checks.

Your result may also appear in your EPAO's own portal before the Multiverse email arrives. The result email is automated and does not always send. An absent email does not mean an absent result. Feedback and Grade Breakdowns

The feedback you receive depends on your result.

  1. If you passed, your EPAO does not send a grading report by default. You receive your overall grade only.

  2. If you passed and want to see how your grade was reached, you can request a grading report. Contact the Multiverse Support Team using the chat on this page. The Support Team passes your request to the EPAO.

  3. If you did not pass, a grading report is provided as standard. It sets out where the assessment fell short so you can prepare for resubmission.

The grading report is the breakdown. It shows how you performed against each assessment method. There is no separate breakdown to request.

Your Certificate

Your certificate is separate from your result and arrives later. Your EPAO uploads your completed apprenticeship to the government's apprenticeship service, and the certificate is issued and posted from there. It is not issued by Multiverse or by your EPAO directly.

By default, the certificate is posted to your employer's address on record, not your home address. If you want it sent elsewhere, say so at your Gateway meeting so it is recorded on your Gateway form. Question: What is the difference between my result and my certificate?

​Answer: The result is your grade, emailed by Multiverse within 10 working days of your final assessment. The certificate is the official document, issued through the government's apprenticeship service and posted to your employer's address by default. It arrives separately and later.

Question: I passed but only received a grade with no explanation. Is that normal?

​Answer: Yes. Passing Apprentices receive the overall grade only. If you want a grading report, contact the Multiverse Support Team and they will request it from your EPAO.

Question: I did not pass. Will I get feedback?

​Answer: Yes. A grading report is provided as standard so you can see where the assessment fell short and prepare for resubmission. See "If You Do Not Pass Your EPA".

Question: My peers received results before me. Should I be worried?

​Answer: No. Timelines vary between EPAOs and between assessment dates. Waiting longer does not indicate a worse outcome. If 10 working days have passed, contact the Multiverse Support Team.

Question: Where is my certificate going to be sent?

​Answer: To your employer's address on record, unless you asked for a different address at your Gateway meeting. Check with your Apprentice Manager if you are unsure.
