Why does a module in Multiverse show as incomplete even after completing activities?

Why a module shows as incomplete

A module is marked complete only when every required activity inside it is marked complete. A green tick next to an activity confirms The Platform has registered that activity. If any activity is missing a green tick, the module stays incomplete β€” even if every activity looks finished on screen.

The most common cause is a discussion activity where only one of the two required actions has been taken. The next most common is unexpanded sections within a reading activity. Both fixes take under two minutes.

Discussion activities: post AND comment

A discussion activity completes only when both actions are taken, in this order:

  1. Create or post the discussion topic.

  2. Add a comment on a peer's topic, or reply on the same thread.

The activity stays grey if only one action is taken. This is the single most common reason a module shows as incomplete.

Activities where this applies include:

  • Applying Your Skills

  • Data & Insights Community Circle

  • Any activity labelled as a discussion or forum

To fix it:

  1. Open the discussion activity.

  2. Confirm a topic has been posted.

  3. Add a comment on another learner's topic.

  4. Refresh the page.

The green tick should appear within a minute.

Reading activities: expand every section

Some reading activities track completion at the section level. If a dropdown, accordion, or "Read more" panel is never expanded, The Platform treats that section as unread, and the activity stays incomplete.

To fix it:

  1. Open the activity.

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page.

  3. Expand every dropdown, accordion, and "Read more" panel.

  4. Watch for green ticks appearing as each section opens.

  5. Refresh the page once every section is expanded.

Module status syncs once a day

Activity-level green ticks update instantly. Module status updates once a day, usually overnight. This means an activity can show a green tick today, while the module still shows as incomplete until tomorrow.

If every activity has a green tick:

  1. Wait until the next day.

  2. Return to the module overview.

  3. The module status will have updated.

There is no need to refresh repeatedly or raise a ticket during this window.

When to contact support

Contact the Multiverse Support Team if all of the following are true:

  1. Every activity inside the module has a green tick.

  2. At least 24 hours have passed since the final activity was completed.

  3. The module still shows as incomplete.

At this point, the issue needs a fix from the Support Team. Sending the right information in the first message means it can usually be resolved without further back-and-forth.

Include in the ticket:

  1. A screenshot showing the activity-level green ticks and the module-level status.

  2. The exact path: Programme β†’ Module β†’ Unit β†’ Activity name.

  3. A note confirming 24 hours have passed since the final activity was completed.

Also contact the Support Team if:

  • A "Mark Complete" button is missing, and no green tick appears despite all required actions being taken.

  • A module or activity has disappeared without notice.

  • The dashboard shows pre-Gateway state for an Apprentice who has passed Gateway.

  • Old activities from a previous cohort or programme are still listed.

Does module status affect apprenticeship progress?

No. Module completion status is a progress indicator, not a grade. It does not affect apprenticeship progress, Off-the-Job (OTJ) hours, or the End-Point Assessment (EPA). Even if a module's completion status cannot be restored, the Apprentice does not need to redo the work, and the final EPA grade is unaffected.
