What is the word count for the work-based project?

Work-Based Project Word Count Guidelines

Following the word count guidelines for your Work-Based Project (WBP) report is crucial. If your report exceeds or is under the permitted word count, it will automatically result in a fail.

Important note: Appendices should only contain supplementary material. They should not be used to include extra content or new information that rightfully belongs in the main body of your report to get around the word count. To understand specifically what counts, please consult the relevant guides depending on your EPAO:

The word count guidelines vary by programme:

  • Data Fellowship and Advanced Data Fellowship:

    • Maximum word limit: 3,500 words

    • Tolerance: +/-10%

    • Acceptable range: 3,150 to 3,850 words

  • Software Engineering:

    • Maximum word limit: 4,500 words

    • Tolerance: +/-10%

    • Acceptable range: 4,050 to 4,950 words

  • Business Transformation Fellowship:

    • Maximum word limit: 5,000 words

    • Tolerance: +/-10%

    • Acceptable range: 4,500 to 5,500 words

Always refer to your specific programme’s assessment plan to confirm the exact maximum word count for your WBP report. Sticking to these guidelines is a key part of a successful submission.
