Overview of WBP Deadlines and Special Considerations
The End Point Assessment (EPA) Work-Based Project (WBP) submission deadlines are generally final. However, Multiverse provides a framework for Extensions and Special Considerations when an Apprentice faces unavoidable and exceptional circumstances. Failure to submit the WBP report and associated presentation by the deadline results in an automatic Technical Fail for the EPA unless an official request is approved.
Valid Grounds for Special Consideration
Special Considerations or WBP Extensions are granted only for documented, extenuating circumstances. Valid reasons include:
Serious Illness: Medical conditions lasting seven or more consecutive days.
Bereavement: The loss of a close family member or dependent.
Medical Leave: Formal periods of recovery or treatment.
Work-Related Circumstances: Significant, uncontrollable shifts in professional responsibilities that halt WBP progress.
Other Exceptional Circumstances: Unique situations evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO).
Criteria and Restrictions for WBP Requests
The Apprentice must adhere to the following constraints to remain eligible for a deadline adjustment:
Ineligible Reasons: Annual leave, personal social plans, or unauthorised absences do not qualify for an extension.
Submission Window: The Apprentice must submit the request no later than two days after the original submission deadline.
Evidence Requirements: Employer evidence is mandatory for claims involving illness or bereavement.
WBP Pauses: If an Apprentice is off work for an extended period without a confirmed return date, the Apprentice may request a WBP Pause.
Process: How to Apply for a Special Consideration
The Apprentice must follow these steps to initiate a request:
Notify Success Coach: The Apprentice must contact their Success Coach immediately upon identifying an issue.
Submit Detailed Statement: The Apprentice must provide a written statement including specific dates and a description of the impact on their Applied Learning.
Manager Corroboration: The Apprentice's Manager must email a statement supporting the request. If the Apprentice prefers, official medical notes may be provided in lieu of a manager statement.
Form Completion: The Success Coach will generate a Special Consideration Form. The Apprentice must sign this form before it is submitted to the EPAO for final approval.
Specify Request Type: For Post-Gateway Apprentices, the request must explicitly state if the goal is a Deferral, Pause, or Extension.
