How to resolve network/connection issues with sessions hosted via Multiverse's Embedded Video Conferencing

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview

If you’re experiencing issues like a white screen, choppy audio or video, or frequent disconnects when joining or participating in a Multiverse Video Conferencing session, don't worry – we've got you covered! Follow these tips to troubleshoot and improve your video conferencing experience. Please note, this guide applies to those joining sessions via Multiverse's Embedded Video Conferencing only, and not those using Zoom/Teams.

First things first, ensure you’re not violating any IT or Privacy policies in your organization before diving into any changes.

Boost Your Network Connection

A slow or unstable internet connection can cause many of the issues you're encountering. Here's how to get things running smoothly:

  • Try a Different Network: Switch to another network, like a mobile hotspot, to see if the problem goes away.

  • Optimize Your WiFi Router Placement: Make sure your computer can "see" the router without too many walls or obstacles in the way. Reduce interference by positioning your router in a central, open spot.

  • Use an Ethernet Cable: Connect your computer directly to the router using an Ethernet cable for a more reliable connection.

Turn Off Your Proxy or VPN

Proxies and VPNs are great for privacy but can sometimes clash with Multiverse Video Conferencing due to changing server IPs. Here’s how to turn them off:

  • For Proxies: Go to your browser or system network settings and disable any proxy settings.

  • For VPNs: Open your VPN application and disconnect or turn it off.

Configure Your Firewall

Firewalls are essential for security but can sometimes block the traffic needed for Multiverse Video Conferencing. Here's what to do:

  • Firewall Configuration: Chat with your organization's IT or tech team and ask them to ensure your firewall settings are compatible with Multiverse Video Conferencing. If they aren’t sure what is required, you can pass on this handy guide here.

Optimize Your Device’s Performance

A clutter-free device works best. Make sure your computer can focus all its resources on your video call:

  • Close Unnecessary Software: Exit any applications that you don’t need for your meeting.

  • Minimize Browser Tabs and Windows: Keep only the essential tabs and windows open during your video conference to free up resources.
