Do I need to sit Functional Skills exams during my apprenticeship?

Updated over a week ago

You only need to sit formal functional skills exams in maths and English (reading, writing and communicating) if you have not opted out of functional skills requirements (opting out means both you and your employer have signed a training plan to state that you waive your right to functional skills qualifications). If you have not opted out of these qualifications, but you can provide acceptable evidence of existing level 2 qualifications in maths and English, you also do not need to formally sit these exams as part of your apprenticeship.
