What is the EPA Resit/Retake Process?

Understanding the EPA Resit and Retake Process

In the unlikely event that an apprentice doesn't pass their End-Point Assessment (EPA) on the first try, we are committed to providing the necessary support to help apprentices achieve success through resubmission opportunities. This guide outlines the process and the support available.

Key Terms Explained:

  • Resit: If an apprentice needs to be reassessed on only one component of the EPA and is still within the EPA window (typically within a certain timeframe after the initial assessment), this is usually referred to as a resit.

  • Retake: If the apprentice is outside the EPA window, they will need to retake the entire EPA. This typically involves completing a new Work-Based Project (if applicable to the standard) and being assessed on all EPA components again, even if they only failed one element initially.

  • Resubmission: This is the formal process undertaken by the Multiverse EPA team to request a resit or retake with the EPAO on behalf of the apprentice.

Our Commitment to Supporting Your Apprentice

We work closely with apprentices and the End-Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) to ensure a fair chance at successfully completing their EPA. If an apprentice is unsuccessful initially, we have a dedicated team and clear processes in place to support their resit or retake.

Who is Involved in the Resubmission Process?

  • Multiverse EPA Team: This team manages all communication with the EPAO regarding results and handles the official resubmission (request for resit or retake) on behalf of the apprentice.

  • Multiverse Resubmission Tutor: These specialist tutors provide focused 1:1 support to apprentices preparing for their resit. They will help the apprentice understand the feedback from their initial assessment, create an action plan, and address specific Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSBs) where further development is needed.

  • Multiverse Success Coach: Our Success Coaches offer consistent support throughout the resubmission journey. They manage communication, conduct EPA review meetings, and assist with non-technical queries. They also oversee the Gateway resubmission documentation.

  • The Apprentice: The apprentice plays an active role by scheduling 1:1 sessions after being informed of the need to resubmit. They are responsible for committing to and completing all agreed-upon actions in their plan and booking additional support sessions as required.

What is the Resit/Retake Process?

If an apprentice is unsuccessful in their EPA, the Multiverse EPA team will:

  1. Communicate the Results: The apprentice will be formally informed of their results.

  2. Initiate Support: The EPA team will connect the apprentice with a Success Coach who will guide them through the next steps.

  3. Schedule an EPA Review Meeting: The Success Coach will arrange a meeting to discuss the feedback report and the resubmission process.

  4. Access Resubmission Tutor Support: If deemed necessary, the Success Coach will facilitate access to a Resubmission Tutor for 1:1 sessions focused on addressing the areas for development identified in the feedback.

  5. Develop an Action Plan: Working with the Resubmission Tutor, the apprentice will create a clear action plan outlining the steps needed for a successful resit or retake.

  6. Ongoing Support: The Success Coach will continue to provide support and guidance throughout the resubmission journey.

  7. Formal Resubmission: Once the apprentice is deemed ready, the Multiverse EPA team will formally request the resit or retake with the EPAO.
