Overview
Providing proof of a Level 2 qualification in maths and English is crucial to meet apprenticeship requirements in the UK. If you’ve lost your exam certificates, don’t worry— follow these steps to get replacement evidence.
What does the process involve?
Due to GDPR, you’ll need to do a bit of detective work yourself to retrieve your exam information. The key step is knowing your exam board. If you sat O levels, CSEs, GCSEs, or A levels, you won’t get a replacement certificate but will receive a certified statement of results, which works just as well.
Please note: You may need to show proof of identity and pay a fee to exam boards for this service.
Steps to Retrieve Your Exam Evidence
Step 1: Identify your Exam Board
Here’s some tips to track it down:
Contact Your School: Many schools keep records and can help point you in the right direction.
Check the List Below: It might jog your memory.
Subject Access Request (Last Resort): If you’re still stuck, submit a subject access request to the exam board(s) you think might have your information. Under GDPR, they should let you know within 30 days if they do.
To submit a Subject Access Request:
Pearson Edexcel: Simply email [email protected]
WJEC: WJEC Data Protection
Step 2: Contact your Exam Board
Reach out to the relevant exam board to request evidence of your qualifications.
Replacement Certificates
You can request a replacement certificate using the links below (this will often involve a fee)

For Scottish Qualifications:
Contact the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) for replacement certificates for Scottish qualifications.
Email Evidence
If you do not want to pay the fee for an official replacement certificate, sometimes replies to Subject Access Requests can act as acceptable evidence if they meet the following strict criteria:
The reply to the Subject Access Request must take the form of an email from the awarding organisation (exam board) offering the qualification confirming achievement in English and/or maths.
Must include your full name, full qualification name, the awarding organization name and/or qualification number, the awarded grade, and the date of achievement.
