At Multiverse, we want to help you succeed in your apprenticeship journey! One important step in the process is providing evidence of Maths and English qualifications at Level 2 (GCSE grade 4 or C and above). Let’s break down the "why" behind this UK requirement and how it affects your application and your apprenticeship.
Why do I need to provide evidence of Maths and English qualifications?
When you’re pursuing an apprenticeship at Level 3 or higher, it’s essential to submit a complete evidence pack as part of the apprenticeship standard set by the Education and Skills Funding Agency. This pack must include proof of your Maths and English qualifications at Level 2 or above.
We understand that this might feel like an extra hurdle, especially if you're already experienced or have other higher-level qualifications. Just to clarify, this is a requirement from the government funding rules, not just Multiverse. But don’t worry, we’re here to help you navigate this process!
What does the Maths and English evidence requirement mean for me?
Here’s a quick guide to help you figure out your next steps based on your situation:
Your Position | Next Steps |
❓ I have evidence of Maths and English qualifications, but I'm not sure if they count as acceptable evidence. | No problem! Check out our guide here for what counts as acceptable evidence. You can also find further government guidance here. |
❓ I think I have a Level 2 Maths and English qualification but can't find my certificates. | You're not alone! Take a look at our guide here on how to retrieve lost evidence. If you are unable to retrieve the evidence— you'll need to pass the initial assessments in Maths and English during the application and if you're accepted onto a programme, our functional skills team will help you take the necessary exams to ensure you can meet this requirement. |
❓ My name has changed since I obtained my qualifications, and I have the evidence, but it doesn't match my current name. | Simply upload proof of your name change along with your evidence. Acceptable documents include things like a marriage certificate or a deed poll. |
❌ I don’t have any existing Level 2 Maths and English qualifications. | If you're applying through your current employer, you will need to successfully pass initial assessments in maths and English during your application. After that, you’ll take exams in Maths and English while studying for your apprenticeship. Our functional skills team will provide all the support you need! More information about this process can be found here. |
✔️ I can provide acceptable evidence of a Level 2 or higher Maths and English qualification. | Fantastic! Once you have submitted this and it has been reviewed, if everything checks out, you won’t need to take any additional Maths and English exams during your apprenticeship. |
When will I hear if my Maths and English certificates/evidence have been accepted?
You will be informed whether your maths and English evidence has been accepted or rejected via email, which will include the next steps if your evidence has been rejected.
