FAQ: Can I Ask for My Skills Scan Result to Be Looked at Again

What to do if your skills scan result was not what you expected, and which situations can be reviewed again.

Summary

Some skills scan outcomes can be reviewed again if you have more information to share. Others cannot be changed, because they are based on fixed rules rather than a judgement call. This article explains which is which, so you know what to expect before you contact us.

Questions

Answers

Question: My skills scan was rejected because of my existing skills or qualifications

Answer: This is not something we can review again. If your prior learning or existing qualifications already cover a large part of the programme content, funding rules mean you cannot enrol using an apprenticeship levy. This is a funding rule, not a judgement about your ability.

If you still want to do the programme, your employer may be able to fund it commercially instead of through the levy. Speak to your Apprentice Manager about this option.

Question: My skills scan was rejected because of right to work or funding eligibility

Answer: This can be reviewed again. If you believe you do meet the right to work or funding eligibility requirement, contact us with written proof, for example a document confirming your right to work status. We will review your case again once we have this evidence.

Question: My skills scan was rejected because of a required condition for this programme

Answer: This may be reviewed again, depending on the reason. Some programmes have required conditions related to your current role, because the programme needs to apply directly to your day-to-day work.

If you believe your role does meet the condition, contact us with clear, specific evidence, for example written confirmation from your manager describing your actual day-to-day duties.

NOTE: General reassurance without evidence is not enough for us to review your case again.

Question: My skills scan showed a lower match to the programme, but I was not rejected

Answer: This is not something to appeal, because you have not been blocked from starting the programme. A lower match score reflects how closely your current role lines up with the programme content, not a required condition.

If you have questions about your match, discuss this with your Apprentice Manager, who can help you understand how to get the most from the programme.

Question: How will I hear back

Answer: We contact you by email with the outcome of any review, along with the reasoning behind the decision.
