Upskiller Application: Right To Work - Share Code

This article will guide you in proving your right to work via a share code

Updated over a week ago

Overview

The UK government has established eligibility requirements for apprenticeships and these will be checked with you as part of the Multiverse admissions process. One of these checks is related to your right to work in the UK.

One of the easiest ways to prove your right to work is via a share code. The article below lays out the steps you need to take to obtain your right-to-work share code.

Proving your right to work

UK and Irish citizens

If you’re a UK or Irish citizen, you will not need to provide proof upfront as part of the application process. However, if successful, we will ask you for these documents when you start your apprenticeship. You can see the list of documents you can share here.

Although you will not need to provide the documents upfront, you will still need to meet the 3-year rule requirement, which means you must have lived in the UK or EEA (European Economic Area), or Switzerland, for the last 3 years or more to qualify for government funding.

If you’re not a UK or Irish citizen

If you’re not a UK or Irish citizen, the easiest way to prove your immigration status is via a share code. Please refer to the section below for a guide on how to obtain your share code.

Please try and obtain a share code before contacting us as, if you are able to provide one to us in your application, it will speed up the process for our Admissions team to make a final decision on your application.

If you aren’t able to get a share code, please use the chat widget in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. You’ll then be able to submit a ticket to our team and provide another document to prove your right to work. Please note, that checking other right-to-work documents can take a bit longer than a share code, but our team will be able to help if you have any questions. You can see a list of acceptable documents here.

We are no longer allowed to accept a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) as proof of the right to work.

Obtaining a share code

To obtain a right-to-work share code, please visit this page. Take a moment to read the information on the page and, once you’re ready, you can scroll to the end of the page and click on ‘Start now’.

You will then be asked to follow some steps to obtain your share code:

  1. Confirm which document you used when you created your initial settlement application on the UK Visas and Immigration gov.uk website (e.g. your visa or EU settled status application).

  2. Enter your passport or ID number.

  3. Enter your date of birth.

  4. Confirm if you want to receive a security code to your phone or email.

  5. Enter the security code you’ve just been sent.

  6. You will then see a page confirming your immigration status. Click on ‘Get a share code’ at the bottom of the page.

  7. You will then be asked why you need the share code. Select ‘To prove my right to work’.

  8. A page showing your right-to-work details will appear, but you cannot use this page or a screenshot of it as proof of your right-to-work, you’ll still need to click the button that says ‘Continue’ to generate the 9-digit alphanumeric code.

  9. Once you have your 9-digit share code, please enter this code in the relevant box on your Multiverse application.

If you already completed your application and had left the box blank, please use the chat widget in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen to contact us and provide your share code. Our team will then be able to check it to confirm your right-to-work eligibility for the apprenticeship.
