What does the Functional Skills rule relaxation mean for me?

Guidance for meeting the Maths and English (Functional Skills) requirement of UK apprenticeships

Updated over 2 months ago

How have the functional skills requirements changed?

Previously, apprentices needed to evidence an existing Level 2 qualification in maths and English, or they had to achieve these during their apprenticeship. Now, if you're 19 or older at the start of your apprenticeship, you may be able to opt out of the Level 2 maths and English qualification requirement. This would allow you to concentrate on your core apprenticeship training without the added pressure of these additional exams, provided your employer agrees they're not essential for your role.

You can find out more about the opt-out process in this article.
