A guide for Apprentice Managers on supporting a prospective apprentice's application

Updated over a month ago

Overview

As part of our application process, we will ask you to fill out a few questions regarding your support for your apprentice’s application, and whether their role will allow them to apply the learnings from the program.

The importance of Apprentice Manager support

Apprentice managers are crucial to an apprentice’s success. You will be essential in ensuring they can protect their time to apply their learnings back to their role, and that they can access the right opportunities to do so.

You will be invited to a quarterly progress review with your apprentice and their Multiverse coach to discuss progress and return on investment, but it is important that outside of these sessions, you continue to support your apprentice by allowing them to complete their off-the-job hours, attend their coach-led sessions, and apply the skills they are learning back in their role.

Conversation Guide

You will play a key role in ensuring your apprentice gets the most out of their apprenticeship. Once they start their application, we’ll send you some questions to confirm they have the right tools and support in place to succeed in the apprenticeship.

It’s important that you and your apprentice have a conversation to set clear expectations around how they will incorporate learnings into their role, and how they can protect the right amount of time to dedicate to the apprenticeship. Review the questions we'll ask you below, and use them as a guide for your conversation with your report.

Completing the Apprentice Manager application questions

This should take no more than 5 to 10 minutes to complete. We will ask you a few questions regarding:

  • Your support in ensuring your apprentice can attend the Multiverse sessions

  • Your support in ensuring your apprentice can dedicate at least 6 hours per week (on average) towards the apprenticeship

  • Confirmation that your apprentice will be able to apply the skills they are learning to their role successfully

  • Confirmation that your apprentice will have access to the necessary data and/or tools to apply their learning

  • Confirmation that you will attend and participate in quarterly progress reviews with your apprentice and their Multiverse coach

Frequently Asked Questions

I can’t see an email from Multiverse, how can I find it?

  • If your apprentice has already started their application and completed the section that asks for their manager’s details, you should have received an email in your inbox. Please make sure to check your spam folder too in case it has ended up there. Unfortunately, we are currently not able to easily re-send it.

How long do I have to reply?

  • You will have three working days to reply from the time you receive the email. We understand this is not long, but this limited time frame is set to ensure we can progress your apprentice’s application promptly, to avoid any significant delays in the assessment process. Please rest assured, that if you are not able to reply in time, it will not impact your apprentice’s eligibility.

I have not/will not be able to answer the questions in the given timeframe. What happens next?

  • There is no need to worry. If you are not able to reply within the timeframe, we will use the Apprenticeship Expectations Agreement signed by your report to progress their application. You and your apprentice should have already discussed the apprenticeship opportunity and requirements before they applied to ensure they understand what this opportunity means for them and how you will support them.

Do I have to speak to my apprentice before answering?

  • We always recommend that you and your apprentice sit down and have a conversation before they begin applying so that you have a chance to set expectations, discuss the opportunity, and agree on ways of working. This is the first step in their apprenticeship journey, and it’s crucial to set the relationship up for success from the start.
